I think people should play whatever make them happy and they are interested in. And especially younger kids are just sponges, they will play and learn anything (they don't know or assume anything is difficult so they just get on with it.) I know when folks are trying to learn something new it gets frustrating when you buy stuff with your hard earned money and it's crap. Even guitar lessons. My son wanted guitar lessons, but now he had migrated to drums. Do you play in front of people yet? You will. It takes time and patience to learn something well enough that you can feel confident to show other people. I played a guitar once. Guitar Hero.
